It’s that time of year again, Whitsun weekend and that means family camping! This year we ventured back to the Hertford camping and caravanning club site with the usual suspects: my father-in-law to be, his wife and cousins. Hertford is close to home which makes it very convenient if anything is forgotten (like last year when my fiancé forgot the airbed or the year before when we forgot the duvet) and it’s a lovely quaint area with a very pretty little castle.
When Martyn first introduced me to camping I found it quite difficult to adjust to but he has gone out of his way to make it more comfortable for me which has made it much more enjoyable. We have a lovely tent which has plenty of space inside and as gross as it may sound we even bought a camping toilet – best thing ever for camping; it’s a bit like a potty for adults really but it has chemicals and a flush etc. The worst thing is waking up at 3am bursting for the toilet and having to pull on your wellies and coat (because of course it’s raining – almost a permanent state in England) and traipse over to the toilet block accompanied only by moths attacking you for your lantern. This of course may be fine for some people but I guess I’m a prima donna in this instance.
I have discussed camping with many people and usually I am quite negative about it; I’m not sure why this is as actually when I’m there I absolutely love it and if the weather is bad I like it even more. I love wrapping up in warm knits, scarves and of course wearing my wellies and rain also makes it more interesting, like an added challenge (except in the middle of the night as mentioned above). This weekend’s weather lived up to expectations and it rained frequently and when it was not raining it was extremely warm…I think I have even caught the sun. Hot weather makes me extremely grumpy but it meant I got to use my new beautiful red Pashley Britannia bicycle so all in all I got the best of both worlds this weekend.
It was a really fun weekend full of cheesy indulgences like board games and quizzes but that’s what I love most about camping, laughing lots with great company….. even if the boys do cheat.
This year we decided to play around with lighting, movement and night photography. Some of the photos came out a bit creepy and ghost like which I really like; see below:
